This package includes our Royal Staunton Chess Set in African Padauk and Boxwood matched with our Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Molded Chess Board. This eye-catching chess set features one of the most colorful woods in the world - African Padauk. The Royal Staunton is an old classic design that continues to be very popular. The king, queen, and bishop have unusually large collars that creates an elegant and unique look. The king's crown is domed with a one of a kind finial at the top. The other pieces have graceful shapes and features that blend together to produce an overall cohesive design.

The king is 3.25" tall with a 1.5" wide base and features a traditional formee cross. The pieces are triple-weighted to produce a low-center of gravity and exceptional stability on the chess board. Chess pieces before the mid 19th century were of two kinds - excessively elaborate and costly hand-carved reproductions of the Kings court, or rudely turned and daubed pieces in which rank was dictated by height alone.
